The weekend of the 17/18 June saw the Junior Squad in the Lake District for an action packed weekend of training at Austin Fell woods and Blakeholme.
On Saturday Chris organised some pretty technical training exercises such as: contour, compass and line courses and a fast terrain loop to improve our speed and strength. Racing provided good opportunities to stimulate racing under pressurised situations and clean navigation.
After a great day of courses in the warm weather, we went for a swim in Lake Windermere. The water was pleasantly warm and we all had a great time together.
We got back to the hall and set all tables up, in time for the fish & chips to arrive which most people couldn’t finish even though they were really nice. It was Evie’s birthday so we had a couple of birthday cakes. Overall it was a really fun day and we all developed our navigational skills.
After clearing up the hall we headed over to Blakeholme, venue for last year’s Northern Champs for more technical training in some lovely runnable woodland. The weekend ended with a closely fought relay.
Thanks to Natasha, Chris and Nev for organising the weekend and to all the other helpers for ferrying us around, hanging controls and shadowing.
